Joel Someillan was born in Miami, Florida in 1966 to a large and musical Cuban emigré family. His first musical experiences came from heavy doses of Jazz provided by his music-loving father and his piano-playing uncle Julio. The family had frequent gatherings where small impromptu concerts would break out and everyone would jump up and grab an instrument or start singing.

Joel always seemed to reach for the guitar though he couldn't play it at the time. By age 13 though, he was starting to learn Beatles songs on his own and jumping between guitar and piano. At age 15 he started his first rock group playing high school dances and experimenting with recording.

His second and more mature group came at age 18 when Joel and his bandmates began to compose and record original music and feel like this may be the thing to do for a career. After completing business studies at Florida International University, Joel headed for Boston, Massachussetts where he enrolled in the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

At Berklee, Joel constantly fused music with technology. This duality led to a major in Music Production and Engineering as well as a minor in Jazz Composition. He eventually graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors in 1993.

After graduation, Joel remained in Boston for another 3 years where he honed his skills as an engineer at Euphoria Recording Studio working within Boston's phenomenal music scene.

In 1996, Joel returned to his native Miami and quickly became involved in the Latin music scene which is so prevalent in South Florida.  After stints as an engineer at  several area studios and for several producers, Joel broke out on his own and formed Someillan Productions, a full-service composition and production house.

Soon after that, Joel caught the ear of world-renowned producer Emilio Estefan who signed Joel to a multi-year production and publishing deal. This new collaboration resulted in Joel earning numerous Gold and Platinum album credits along with two Latin Grammy awards...the first in 2001 for Best Engineered Album (Thalia’s Arrasando), and the second in 2005 for Best Pop Vocal Album (Obie Bermudez' Todo El Año).  The following year another of Joel's productions was Grammy-nominated for Album Of The Year (Chayanne's Cautivo)

Another part of Joel's growth as a producer was his friendship and musical partnership with Pablo Flores... a remixing legend responsible for, among many things, playing an important role in launching the careers of Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Shakira, and others. Together they produced over 50 dance remixes for the biggest stars in the busness. Their music is still rattling the walls of clubs all around the world!

After the Estefan years, Joel joined forces with his friend George Noriega and together they formed Jollipop Entertainment, a company geared towards music and entertainment for children and teens and responsible for writing and producing the music for Nickelodeon's Dora The Explorer and Go Diego Go! TV shows among other projects for the network and Dreamworks. They have numerous projects currently in development including the guidance and production of young, promising artists.

With Someillan Productions, Joel continues to write and produce music for many artists as well as TV shows and movie scores.

He lives in the Doral area of Miami with his wife Elizabeth, daughter Victoria, and son AJ.
